Premonitions
Last night as I was lying in bed attempting to sleep I found myself thinking about hurricanes and wondering whether anything was currently brewing in the Atlantic. It’s the start of the hurricane season this month and I have friends that are still on the water in the caribbean.
I’d just been reviewing my housemate’s book about his experience in Hurricane Ivan and I’m about to start editing my account of Hurricane Tomas, so it wasn’t a surprise to find the subject on my mind.
However, I got this sudden urge to check the national hurricane center website. I discovered there was nothing approaching the caribbean but there was a storm on the pacific coast of central america heading WNW.
Based on the normal pattern of hurricanes it is unlikely to travel as far as north america but I’m still curious as to why I felt so compelled to get out of bed late at night, and turn on my computer to look then. I haven’t viewed that site since tracking Tomas last October.
Even though in 12 hours the likelihood of tropical cyclone has increased and it’s crept up the coast to Mexico, I doubt this is anything much to report. But I’m fascinated all the same, especially since I’ve had two premonitions in the last few days. Once when I was sitting in a stationary car and imagined being backed into about a minute before it happened. Then once again when I was dragging myself out of the house to go to the store on foot. I noticed a car drive past and imagined it stopping at the junction and offering me a lift. Again, within a minute it happened. Turned out it was one of the neighbours I’d never met before, just happened to be going to the same store as me. I’d wondered why there’d been all these little delays to me leaving the house…
